Greetings from the town mayor of Oberwesel

Dear friends of Oberwesel,
dear citizens of Oberwesel,
welcome to this redesigned homepage of the town of Oberwesel, which is incorporated in the world heritage portal for the Upper Middle Rhine region.
We’re in the process of compiling this internet site to provide a comprehensive overview of our attractive and beloved town of Oberwesel with its three districts Dellhofen, Langscheid and Engehöll. If you have any ideas or requests, please do get in touch - we’d love to hear from you.
Oberwesel, also known as the town of towers and wine, lies in the heart of the UNESCO world heritage valley, and is surrounded by a defensive town wall and sixteen towers. These bear witness to a rich past, which awaits discovery.
Today, you can still enjoy the good life in this beautiful town on the Rhine, the town which once sent Ferdinand Freiligrath into raptures as being the “most beautiful retreat for romance”.
Locals and visitors alike enjoy being in Oberwesel for its intact infrastructure with nursery, primary and secondary schools (without sixth form), hospital, centre for senior citizens, and vibrant cultural life with concerts, plays, readings, lectures, a wide range of restaurants and hotels, a range of choice wines from local vintners, and unique festivals.
I warmly invite you to feel at home here in Oberwesel - in keeping with our slogan being here is nicest when you’re by my side, and to discover the many special attractions of this little town beside a great river.
Enjoy your time in Oberwesel - whether you live here, or are only visiting.
I look forward to welcoming you!
